walk like an Egyptian

This year in History we are returning to study the ancient civilization beginning with Egypt. In preparation for my turn to host our History and Science group, we made Egyptian death masks. Emma and Slade both served as models. Over the course of about three days, we made six masks. We tried the first one with paper mache and a plastic Halloween mask but it did not turn out like I wanted. The rest were made with Rigid Wrap--plaster infused gauze--which turned out a lot better.

After all the masks were dry, we spray painted them gold.

At co-op, each family painted a mask to take home. I divided our mask into four sections so each child could paint one section.

Those are AMAZING. I'm going to be really impressed if you thought this project up all on your own. Actually, I'm really impressed anyway.

Have I told you lately that you are quite possibly the coolest mom ever? This is why I don't let my kids read your blog. . .
