I had to take Anne off the lights and do a quick photo session. It was VERY quick. As in 10 minutes. I only got a few shots but I'm sure there will be many more in the coming days!

first days
Laboring with Anne took an unusually long time. My last three labors were only four hours long. She took nine. It was not painful (bless you, epidural!) but it was somewhat boring. Dave read me the entire book of The Tale of Despereaux. We played the Ticket to Ride card game. We talked. I dozed. I watched a little TV when he left to get some lunch. Finally a little before six, I was ready to push. Four contractions later and she was out at 6:06 p.m.
Grandma and Grandpa Daniel were so wonderful to stay with our kids all day Friday. They brought the kids to the hospital on Saturday morning to meet their new sister. This was the first (and sadly last time) the kids were able to hold her. It was so endearingly cute to see all their reactions. Nathan was probably the most excited. His whole face just lit up when it was his turn. Sawyer was fairly uninterested. He just wanted to be up on the bed with me.
I was on my own for the rest of the hospital stay as Dave took the kids home. The pediatrician recommended we keep the kids away as an extra measure of caution against giving Anne the chicken pox. I did enjoy a visit from my sisters-in-law and mother-in-law and then from Keri, who is still trying to get me to name the baby Claire.
Sadly, while still in the hospital, Anne's bilirubin and hematocrit levels were way too high (meaning jaundice) and she had to go under the lights.
After an excruciatingly long wait for a discharge from my doctor, we took the baby home on Sunday evening. She is still very jaundiced and has to be on a bili-bed as much as possible. She comes off the lights only to eat and get a little snuggling. I have had to take her back into the hospital each day to get her blood drawn and to the doctor this afternoon. Despite the lights and feeding her every two hours, she remains jaundiced. Hopefully we will see some improvement soon.
Anne and I are hanging out in my bedroom all day. Only Emma gets a chance to hold her. The boys only get to peek in the doorway. It makes me so sad that they don't get to cuddle her but better safe than sorry. In a couple of weeks I'm sure she'll get as much holdin' and lovin' as she can handle.

chicken pox
My friend's children got chicken pox about a month and a half ago. After much debate, we decided not to expose our children then because we were scheduled to go up to Boise right when they would break out. Then my cousin's children got them but I thought I was too close to delivery to deal with it then. Finally, our neighbor's daughter got them and I succumbed to the seemingly inevitable. Two weeks later....
Emma has the chicken pox. She broke out with the first spots on Saturday. For the most part, she actually has done well with it. She even did schoolwork yesterday. She has been taking lots of baths but I've only given her Tylenol once. Unfortunately, last night she was up most of the night because her back was itching so much. Hopefully, tonight she'll be tired enough that she'll sleep. The spots are starting to scab over so we are on the downhill side. Of course, that is until the boys all break out in about two weeks.
Obviously, this doesn't come at the best time with the baby scheduled to arrive on Friday. I have called the doctor. Two of them actually. In fact I switched pediatricians over the first phone call but that is another story. Anyhow, the doctor thinks the new baby should be fine. Should be a fun month though!

catch up
How is it that another two weeks have gone by with nary a post from me!? I think I'm feeling like there isn't much to write about but I'm going to try and dig deep...
I have been:
--getting ready for the baby
I purchased a baby album kit and got it all put together which makes me feel one step ahead.
After recognizing the fact that I had not a stitch of baby girl clothes, I asked me sister to take pity on me. She sent clothes to CO with another sister which will then come out with my mom. Isn't family great! I still had to have something for the first week so I went to Kid to Kid and got a few sleepers and then some more essentials from Target.
I had grand plans to make some freezer meals but that never happened. Instead I put together some pancake and muffin mixes so Emma can get breakfast ready easily. I froze about 8 dozen balls of cookie dough. We also made Snickerdoodles but none of those made it to the freezer!
I'm in cleaning and organizing mode (when I have enough energy). Each night I make sure the house is picked up in case I have to call my neighbor to come over in the middle of the night. There are plenty of things I haven't gotten to but the house is generally good to go.

The weather has been lovely lately and the kids have enjoyed being outside again. The tramp is getting lots of use. The bikes and scooters have come out again. Emma has enjoyed a few games of football and basketball with the neighbors. The snow from our yard is almost completely melted too. Can't wait for spring!
--editing pictures
I have been working really hard to getting our family snapshots edited and printed. I finally finished 2007 and am working on 2008. The kids have been pulling out the albums and scrapbooks a lot lately. I am feeling a strong desire to focus on getting our family stories scrapbooked this year. I am retaking the Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. I think that Stacy Julian is a genius and absolutely love her philosophy and system. This is my third time through the class because alumni take it for free. Each time, I get a few steps closer to really getting a good system in place that will get me back to scrapbooking. I have lots of stories to tell. Watching the kids look through the pictures and the few scrapbook pages I have done makes me even more motivated.
--definitely watching too much TV
Currently, one of my favorite nights of the week is Tuesday. American Idol, Biggest Loser and NCIS are all on that night. And Fridays are for CSI:Miami.
I won't even begin to talk about how much my kids are watching. Afternoons are the worst. It is just so much easier to let them entertain themselves so I can nap/clean/work on the computer. With the weather warming up it has been easier to turn it off. I need to be better about this. Play games. Read out loud. Something! However, I'm thinking that a new baby in the house is not going to help things.

Besides all the usual places we go, I took the kids to Frog and Toad at the SCERA on Monday. It was great. Even Sawyer did well since each child had a treat box and the show was only an hour. We'll have to go back. Dave and I went to see Keri perform in The Phantom at the Hale Center Theater. The performers were great. The writing...not so much. Dave took Emma and Slade to the police station for a tour on Thursday. Finally, we all went as a family to Chuck E. Cheese's on Friday for a last family-of-six fun outing.
I am scheduled to be induced this Friday (eek!). Hopefully I'll manage to get a few more things accomplished, spend some more quality time with my kids, get more pictures printed, and get off the TV and computer. We shall see....
