It was beautiful. I love how things look right after rain. It lifted my heart to take that little walk down the block, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of my neighborhood.
Not much exciting happening around here. We went up to the Discovery Museum on Wednesday. We got free tickets through a homeschooling thing. And every other homeschooler in the state got free tickets too so it was packed. Crazy. We couldn't really enjoy it so we left and got ice cream. I turned around to let the poor gentleman stuck behind me with all my kids (plus an extra) as we were trying to figure out what to get. That gentleman turned out to be Peter Thunell, someone I knew way back in the day in Ft. Collins. His sister Kirsten was also there waiting outside. We got to chat for a bit while the kids ate and dripped there ice cream everywhere. In the end, the day did not turn out like I planned but I guess, since I only paid for ice cream and parking, it is okay. I think I will have to come back though and really check out the museum and perhaps even the fountains another time.
Emma and I went up to my sister's last night to watch So You Think You Can Dance. This was my second time watching it (we don't have TV) so I admit it wasn't all that exciting to me. Afterwards, we watched High School Musical on the Disney Channel. I love musicals. I grew up watching the classics--Singin' in the Rain, Funny Girl, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, On the Town...I think I am going to have to get some of these from Netflix and introduce them to Emma. I think she would really enjoy them. And for those of you who have seen it, should I or should I not take a 7 year old to see Hairspray?

Hey, Lindsay, I sure like your "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow. You are a blessed woman.
It depends how particular you are about what your kids see. I loved Hairspray, and most of it wouldn't be a problem at all. But there are a few things that you might find offensive, or inappropriate for your kids, depending on where you personally draw the line.
For example, one boy says "kiss my a--", which might not bother you at all, or might really offend you. One woman tries to seduce a married man, and talks about how she won a beauty pageant (sleeping with the judges). All of this is stuff that might go completely over your kids' heads, but again, it's something you need to gauge yourself.
On the plus side, the movie has a really positive message, and the skanky chick is definitely the villain, so at least they got that right.
The rainbow picture is lovely, wasn't the rain a refreshing change this week? I loved it.
I actually enjoyed Hairspray and didn't think there was anything offensive, but then again I wasn't watching it with my kids in mind. I can't think of anything really bad, so Denise's advisement is the one to take.
hey lindsey,
i have seen hairspray, and i love it. i think as your friend denise says, there are a few things that could be offensive, but they are really over a 7 year old's head..i would actually be more worried about taking and 11 year old because they would ask questions! HAHA!! the music is great, so much fun..and John Travolta as a woman is pretty much hilarious.. not only is their an anti - racism message, i particulary love that the heroine is a chubby girl who is totally okay with who she is and what she looks like..after 20 years of struggling with that myself, it looks so easy in the movies..now if only the media would get the hint!@ :)
anyway, i sure love catching up with you slades on your blogs...wish i could figure out how to do one, but mine would not be nearly as interesting, i don't think!!
great to see you when you were in town...

Dana drug me to see Hairspray to celebrate her (Dana's) birthday since Rob was out of town. I say go ahead and take Emma. She'll love the dancing. Then take the opportunity for a teaching moment or two concerning things that were "not good." She's going to be exposed to lots of them soon enough. As for my opinion of Hairspray, I miss the classics--Singin' in the Rain, Funny Girl, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, On the Town...
