family fun

Although I haven't been blogging, we have been staying busy with life, school, and family adventures.

On January 30, we went swimming. Dave took the afternoon off work to join us allowing me to stay poolside. We started at the Lehi Legacy Center. When we walked into the pool area, they told us we couldn't actually get in the water for 30 minutes. WHAT!? Imagine how fun it was to keep a very ready-to-go-swimming Sawyer away from the water. The fun in the water had only lasted for about twenty minutes when they cleared everyone from the pool again and told us it was closed for the rest of the day. You've got to be kidding me! This was not a good day for swimming apparently. We were able to get a pass for a return trip and then we decided to head over to American Fork rec center. We stayed there for another hour or so.

I hosted our co-op the first week of this month. Making fossils was on the agenda and I wanted to try out the project ahead of time. On Tuesday, we got out the playdough, dinosaurs, and plaster of paris to create our own fossils. First we actually made our own playdough. Then the kids put dinosaur profiles and footprints into the dough. We poured plaster of paris on top and allowed it to dry. After pulling off all the playdough we finally painted them with brown paint to bring out the details. The kids seem to all enjoy the project and it was fun the next day. However the most fun came afterwards when they just got to play with the playdough. They played for over an hour with it, shaping it, cutting it, burying dinosaurs, making footprints and such.

We visited the firestation last Friday. After watching a video, the kids practiced "Stop Drop and Roll", learned about the firemen's equipment, went out to the garage bay and saw the trucks. They each received a temporary tatoo sticker and a cool heat-sensitive pencil. We ended the trip at Wendy's for lunch with Dave.

Between 4 kids, homeschooling, and being pregnant, I can see why the blogging has slowed down. Glad you're back, though!

I loved your swimming adventure. Things like that are so frustrating, but you just kept going. I think it's great that you have so many cool pools to go to. The dinosaur lesson is such a great idea. I think we'll try it on our 4 days off from school! How are you feeing?
