two for one

For the past few months Dave and I have both been helping Nathan and Slade try to learn how to ride a bike without training wheels. Slade has rarely wanted to actually try and gave up fairly quickly. Nathan on the other hand wanted to try all the time but it was really hard for me to bend over and hang on to the bike.

Tonight we were outside enjoying the beautiful evening. Nathan asked to try and on the first time just started riding by himself. I had been outside experimenting with something so I luckily had my camera.

Slade watched Nathan for awhile and then wanted to try himself. He got on and just started riding. Just like that. Apparently Dave had some sort of magic touch or something.

They were both so excited and I'm so glad I was there to see it.

Hooray for wide, empty neighborhood streets and dad's who will go outside and play with you in them. Super great!

I think it was the spiderman outfit! Their looks of delight are wonderful.

When children learn things for the first time, don't you just relive your own childhood experiences? I still remember the first time I rode a bike (on two wheels). Absolutely thrilling!

Our kids were the same way. Max got the bike thing first, and Samantha just seemed to say to herself, "well, if HE can do it..." and she did it 10 minutes after he first got it. Weird. Competition, I suppose. The pictures are great! Love the spider-man costume!!

How great that they both accomplished this! Mya is still weary about the bike, but Kaylee is dying to see what it is all about. Time will tell.
